What is an Energy Audit
The audit finds hidden bypasses and air leaks and then prioritizes them. Instead of trying the age-old game of replacing windows (unless you have a single pane or metal frame), air sealing the attic, crawlspace, rim joists, major bypasses, chases (shafts), and dropped ceilings allows many of these problem areas to be addressed.
It is essential to allow our crews to properly insulate and seal home to find hidden areas and take care of problems.
Most municipalities adopted energy-efficient codes in September 2016. Homes built before that may have large leaks unless they energy star homes or have air sealing.
Air sealing is needed for all insulation jobs obtaining an Xcel rebate.
Please tell us your main concerns are and what you would like to have looked at during the audit. Our audit covers the essential evaluation of mechanical systems, including the furnace, air-conditioning, ducting, and boiler.
It covers wall insulation, attic insulation, air leakage, knee walls, and cantilevers. You can also fill out what you would like on the attached form.
Combustion Appliance Zone Saftey Inspections are included in our energy audit. Theses inspection analyze how safe your combustion air is.
Utility Bill Analysis
Our analysis helps you save both energy and money. Login to XcelEnergy.com/Myaccount and collect you 24 months utility bills in a CSV file on the home page's bottom.
If you would like more accurate numbers beyond software capability, let our auditor know, and he will manually calculate your prospective products.
We take infrared scanning technology along with blower door air movement, which allows one to see an “X-ray” (IR) vision of your place.
Denver metro utility companies pay close to $200 or more for energy assessments. We can charge less if you have both gas and electricity connections with the Xcel, larger homes may require addional charges.
An optional post IR inspection is available upon request for our auditor to inspect the job. Schedule your post IR inspection when scheduling the job so that we may finish the same day.
Preparing for Your Site Visit
Please provide access to attics, crawlspaces, heating and cooling equipment, and refrigerators. All rooms may need to be accessed. A blower door with a fan will be placed in the front door.
Typically, audits run 2- 3 1/2 hours depending on home size, concerns to address, and conversation length. Homes larger than 6000 sq. ft. may have additional fees.
Duct Blaster Testing
Duct blaster testing is not performed with standard audits. However, it is recommended for Boulder rental homes. Over 95% of homes will not have ducting tight enough to qualify for Boulder’s SmartRegs rental home certification process.
We require duct sealing to be performed when we do a duct blaster test for this program.
Duct sealing is performed from February to September.
